Year long ($50 enrollment fee)
Let’s turn every day discarded materials into creative masterpieces.
Upcycling, or the reusing of materials that would normally just be thrown away after use, is not a new concept. During the Great Depression, it was necessary for people to stretch and reuse every little bit of scrap they had. They would patch clothes, use worn fabric for something else, or make broken items into something else that was useful. Over time, there have been people that developed this process into more of an art form. We will transform old or discarded materials, that most would consider junk, into beautiful creations. This innovative technique will give these “unwanted” items a new life and purpose. Some of the projects may take 2 or 3 weeks so I do ask that your children be responsible for bringing their projects back in those weeks since we have limited closet space. Below is a list of potential materials we will be using. I have already started saving some of these but would love to have help collecting more.
**Every student will need a hot glue gun and glue sticks because a lot of the creations will require one.
Supplies that will be used throughout the year: Old magazines, shoebox lids, newspapers, water bottles, puzzles (with missing pieces), plastic knives, bread tags, jars with lids (wide-mouth like the cheese dip style will work best), tin cans, toilet paper rolls, bottle and milk lids, old jeans (Let me know if you can help supply any of these items.)
Please help me save any of the supplies from the list above.
