“Escape” into Books: Middle School Literature (Leo 10:00 AM) 5th-8th grade $200
Year long ($50 enrollment fee)
Adventures, mysteries, twists, turns, chases, and narrow escapes can keep someone on the edge of their seats. Let’s dig a little deeper and see what clues may be hiding among the pages of gripping literature.
What would you do if you were told to steal Shakespeare’s script for “Hamlet”? Or fall down a rabbit’s hole? How would you deal with kidnapping pirates or unlocking the codes in a journal to a hidden world. Could you locate all the clues to solve the mystery to catch a crook? In this literature class we will discuss the books we read, explore vocabulary, and the concepts to help enhance understanding. While reading each book the students will need to pay attention to details and keep a record of anything they think may or could be used as a clue. Sherlock Holmes said, “There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.” These clues, riddles, and vocabulary terms could be used later on in the year. We will unlock the inner detective by using critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills, along with our creativity. Throughout the year, as we gather facts, riddles, and other essentials from books we will be putting our sleuth skills into action with various games and puzzles. At the end of the year, we will be attempting to create our own “at home” escape rooms. Let’s set sail on a mysterious adventure and “don’t be late!”
