High School Literature: Reading, Analysis, and Critical Thinking

This literature course immerses students in a diverse selection of literary genres, including novels and short stories. Through close reading and discussion, students will develop a deeper understanding of key literary elements such as character development, plot, setting, theme, symbolism, and figurative language.

Critical thinking is at the heart of this course, as students engage in thoughtful discussions, analyze different perspectives, and support their interpretations with textual evidence. Writing assignments, including essays, literary analyses, and creative responses, will help students refine their analytical and expressive skills.

In addition to literary analysis, students will explore the historical, social, and cultural contexts that shape literature, gaining a broader appreciation for how works of literature reflect and influence the world around them. This course is designed to enhance students' reading comprehension, analytical abilities, and written communication skills, preparing them for advanced studies in literature and beyond.

This class is designed for high school students grades 9-12 and the material will be geared towards that age group.
