Math: Fun With Numbers and More (St. Therese Wednesdays Session A 9:00-9:45 a.m.) PreK-K

Course Description:

In our Hands-On Math Explorers class, preschoolers and kindergartners will dive into fundamental math concepts through interactive and engaging activities tailored to their developmental stage. Designed for children aged 3-6, this class provides a dynamic introduction to numbers, basic addition, shapes, patterns, and measurement.

Children will learn to recognize and count numbers using fun games, counting songs, and number-themed storybooks. Hands-on materials such as counting bears, number cards, and abacuses make learning tangible and interactive. Basic addition is introduced with visual aids and manipulatives, helping children understand how numbers combine through activities like adding with objects and engaging number stories. Shape recognition is fostered through identifying and naming circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles, with activities like sorting shapes, creating shape art, and exploring shapes in the environment.

Additionally, the class includes fun exercises with patterns and sorting, enhancing the ability to recognize and create sequences using colorful objects. Basic measurement concepts are introduced through playful activities that involve comparing sizes, lengths, and weights, using tools like rulers, scales, and measuring cups. This hands-on approach ensures that children build a strong mathematical foundation while enjoying the process of learning through play.

Our lessons are keyed to each week of Math-U-See’s Primer, but it is up to each parent if they want to start with formal math, yet, or continue to “play school”. Both are acceptable.

** All classes require online family registration and enrollment. Year-long classes carry a $50 yearly enrollment fee. This enrolls your student in the class for the entire year. There is no need to re-enroll for 2nd semester. The cost of the class is due no later than the first day of each semester in an envelope labeled with your student's name & the class name with cash or a check made out to the teacher. Registration and Enrollment Fees are non-refundable.
