Course Description:

Providing a dynamic learning environment designed for high school students of all grades and skill levels, this class offers a unique blend of independent study and personalized tutoring, allowing students to progress at their own pace through various high school math subjects, including Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, Pre-Algebra.
Students have the flexibility to choose their learning path based on their individual needs and academic goals. They can access a wide range of resources, including textbooks, online materials, and interactive software, to enhance their understanding of mathematical concepts.
We’ll begin the year all together, starting at Lesson 1. The instruction for the lesson will be given and students begin assignment A by group, then move on to the next level or students. Students may work through one or more assignment in class with their group as the teacher checks for understanding after all lessons have been given. Students will be refered back to their teacher’s manual to refresh themselves on a lesson or to check their work on assignments A-E. Inevitably, as the year progresses and students work at their own pace, some students will move faster than the standard pace, and others will need more time. It's helpful to try to keep an average of keeping up with 1 unit a week, using the breaks to catch up if needed. By that method, students will achieve 24 units of their math curriculum during our class schedule.

Each student will be working in their own Math U See textbook. Each week, all three books should come to class with each student. Math U See is set up in weekly units with a number labeling which unit your child is working on, with assignments A-G. An example of an assignment could be 23 B; Unit 23, second (B) assignment. Assignments A-C cover only new material in increasing difficulty. Assignments D-F are mostly the new material with a small review component to keep skills fresh, maintaining comprehension. Students should complete A-E and the test in the course of the week at home. Do not do assignment F unless they need to retake a test. If you are taking 2 full days, that leaves 3 days at home with 2 assignments daily (if A didn’t get completed in class.) Please grade the test at home and save that grade in your grade book. If you are calculating a grade for your student, average all the tests with unit tests counting twice for extra weight. If your student scores lower than 85% it is necessary that we do some reteaching and take a second attempt at a test. The second try on the test will be taken on assignment F. Then, write the second grade from assignment F over the first grade in the test book and label it 2nd try. That will make your life easier when calculating a grade. Should your child get really stuck, we recommend online practice with Khan Academy, and chatting with the teacher to come up with some strategies.

We foster a collaborative and supportive atmosphere where students can engage in peer learning, share insights, and work together on complex problems. This combination of independent study and expert tutoring empowers students to take control of their learning journey, develop critical thinking skills, and achieve their full potential in mathematics.

Required Materials: Students should bring their full Math-U-See curriculum to class with them including teacher books. *Books are NOT included in the tuition price.
